  • Swimwear - Nae nudity, gymwear or neoprene! Wear some swimwear you’ll feel comfortable in and try to avoid any metal fastenings as they can get toasty!

Two towels! - that’s right, two! One to dry yourself with and one to sit on inside the sauna as it’s most hygenic and the benches can sometimes be hot.

Plenty of water - At least 1L! It’s important to stay hydrated before, during and after sessions.

Flip Flops - Something for your own comfort when walking around outside the sauna.

  • We’re family-friendly! We welcome people aged 6 and over into our saunas; however, it must be booked according to the following terms:

    • Ages 6-11 may only enter the sauna in a whole sauna booking and must be accompanied by an adult

    • Ages 12-17 may use any session but must be accompanied by an adult

    • Ages 18+ are welcome to use any session

All bookings must acknowledge the waiver and its conditions before booking.

We advise that anyone with cardiovascular problems or who is pregnant should seek medical advice from their General Practitioner (GP) before using a sauna.

  • The most important thing when using a sauna is listening to your body, this means taking note of when you feel your body is telling you its time to get out and not comparing yourself to others or trying to reach a target. For this reason we do not have a timer inside our saunas.

We suggest you don’t stay in the sauna for longer than 15 minutes at a time.

  • Our sauna is a community space. This means we encourage connection through respectful, friendly and warm conversation. As it’s a shared space please be mindful of the volume and topic of your conversations.

  • The sauna is all about balance. Counteracting the heat with plenty of time to cool off is essential and will enhance your sauna experience.

There’s no right or wrong way to cool off - it could be a dook, a shower or simply sitting outside until you are ready to get back on the sauna bench.

  • Storage - We have dry storage boxes available on-site and hooks to hang your things up while you're enjoying the steam!

Changing - We have a couple of changing rooms at our Largs sauna to keep you dry while changing before and after your sauna.

Toilets – There are no toilets available on site.

  • Yes! Just across the road we have the brilliant Scotts Bar and Restaurant and Courtyard Bistro.

You won’t be short of options if you fancy a coffee, roll, meal or drink after your sauna session.

Bide Sauna Beginnings

Kieran

Inspired by my Finnish friends who prompted me to question, why is there not more sauna culture in Scotland? It’s driech, it gets cold and theres water everywhere. Wanted to encourage more people to embrace what the Scottish outdoors have to offer regardless of the weather or time of year.

First got into dooking as a way to clear my head after long days of studying during uni. This naturally introduced me to sauna. What spoke to me was the atmosphere inside the hot room, a space for connection where barriers drop and conversations flow. Sauna can be whatever you want it to be, and I loved that. I knew that it would be fulfilling to bring that experience to others.

Thomas

I was inspired by the Nordic adoption of sauna as part of their day-to-day outdoor lifestyle. Regardless of the weather, the sauna is a great place to build your day around. My favourite part of sauna is the different types of people you get talking to.
